Saint Louis Chess Club is supported by MONSANTO!

The Saint Louis Chess Club published a video in which Monsanto's Public Relation Manager speaks about their sponsoring of the Saint Louis Chess Club. Monsanto supported the Saint Louis Chess Club with approximately 70000 $ and another 25000$ are on their way.

In my opinion the chess community should show that we don't support this kind of sell out to an evil company like monsanto.

Thank you.

(btw i'm german this is why my english sucks)
Although I'm all in support of open-source/free initiatives, some things are currently unavailable in this format. The SLCC has nice stream coverage of major chess events, and currently the only good alternatives are Chess.com's channel and the chess24 website, both of which are commercial competitors of lichess. Do you have any other alternatives? Or are you suggesting we should not be watching any chess event coverage/broadcasts anymore?

Besides, having *sponsors* which have done bad things is very different from having done anything wrong yourself. If someone offered you $100.000 to fund your activities, would you not be a bit more lenient if perhaps this person made some mistakes in the past? (In a sense it's better if you take their money and use it for good things, than if you refuse the money and letting them use it for bad things.)
"If someone offered you $100.000 to fund your activities, would you not be a bit more lenient if perhaps this person made some mistakes in the past?"
You just describe how bribing works. Congratulations!

And my answer is NO!
I would be happy to take the Money. Th Nat*** killed a lot of people, but, I have no reason to hate German's.
@stockmodo_007 It might be more than some small mistakes, but again, what's the alternative? For the professional streaming service they offer, which costs them money, they could either (1) charge users for this service, or (2) stop their "professional" activities and only use volunteers, or (3) take money from companies willing to sponsor them. For (1) the users would complain, for (2) the quality of the service would drop a lot, so perhaps (3) is the lesser evil.
Monsanto?

The company that goes-out and samples crops in neighboring fields to ensure there has been no cross-over between their genetic-specific variations of crops planted by one farmer in one field, versus another farmer in another field with natural cross-pollination ... and, if Monsanto (?) finds cross-pollination after (criminal) trespassing, they file a law-suit against the farmer across the road claiming planting stock came from a seed bank or repository independent of the two farmers?

If it's that "Monsanto," then -- I agree -- protest the St. Louis Chess Club for accepting any donation from this company -- on the very basic premise that Monsanto's actions violate basic logic.

Yes, it might sound good for a (female) PR person from a "philanthropic" arm of Monsanto to step in and use acronyms like "STEM" and words like "strategy" -- but, it belies the true intent of the company to lock farmers (across the planet) into paying a standardized GMO "fee." (It would be like licensing the generic term: "biology" -- the way Monsanto tells it.)

A lot more details rattling around in my head, from Monsanto's origins, to, present. There are both "good" and "bad" aspects to this company, its business model, and how it approaches things. But, I'm mostly against Monsanto based on the observation that their long-term negative impact outweighs the overall long-term positive impact. (Fair Disclaimer: Some of my personal thoughts, based on observations over time, are a hybrid of conspiracy-theory and pragmatism.)
It does affect my enthousiasm of their ways to promote chess, but I am very aware that in the world of sponsormoney chess is not the easiest aquisition. And this company ( Mon..... ) will pollute itself at the end......
