The study feature is my favorite feature of lichess by far. Invaluable for teaching and sharing analysis.

Really great post! Maybe studies could be rated for quality by users??

It would be nice if you could analyze specific moves and go back.
Example lets say you are in position where there are three possible moves analyze each to a depth of 5-6 moves and if the position is bad go back to choice point and do the same for the other two.

I really love studies. I think I have over 100 of my own private ones now. One thing that needs to be improved though is the search. There is huge differences in quality between someone that has really put some work into it and someone that is just recording a few games. There should be ranking options -- like by hearts.

Another thing that would be nice is an engine that can play more like a human in practice mode. I know that Stockfish is a different project. But, when practicing an endgame as soon you reach a won position, Stockfish likes to make the worst move possible instead of trying to hang on the best it can. Chess.com's engine will play like a human.

The study is excellent functionality which I use a lot with my students.
