What's wrong with the King's Gambit?

Why doesn't this get a starter in the 'best openings' votes? It's a beautiful romantic opening, played not just in the 19th century but by greats such as Korchnoi. I get fun games out of it.

Hmmm ? You mean Bronstein I guess.
Korchnoi was more of a pawn grabber and defender.
Bronstein was the creative sac romantic chess player.
Korchnoi wrote a book on KG so I guess he must have played it now and again!
I'd say there is a difference in the way each is interpreting the word "best"
e5 e5 f4?! exf4 Nf3 Nf6! =+
e5 e5 f4?! exf4 Bc4 Nc6 d4 Nf6 Nc3 Bb4 =+

This.

It is better to play the mirrored Kings Gambit, starting with 1 d4.
@nh78 Sure, it's better to play the mirrored version with 1. d4, if you want as boring a game as possible.

Yes, sure, but most probably Korchnoi would only play it with the black pieces ! :)
Ah, apparently, he played KG very little, although as white and black. It seems he just must have enjoyed writing about it.
KG is legendary! It isn't seen much anymore at the pro level because people play the Falkbeer-CounterGambit against it.

Fun opening filled with excitement, not for wimps. Just gonna ignore all the haters who play boring chess with bland openings.
