"Warning. Letting time run out instead of resigning will result in a temporary ban."

That's another question not to be asked in this topic, since it's a general problem with any ban.
no no no, id prefer the pain of waiting. i want the freedom to take as much time as i want on a move. wtf
My opponent just got this warning for losing on time in a 3 minute game when he spent his last 10 seconds trying to find a move. The warning was completely inappropriate.
It was completely appropriate. Look at the move time graph.

It shouldnt spike when time is running out. It should flatten.

This happens because chess players are smart, and they realize that even a bad move in that situation is better than no move, since you might still win with a bad move, but no move will lose you the game.

Of course, lichess cant tell the difference between an abuser and a moron, so they both get the warning.

I disagree.
No one should be banned for 10s, and if someone is losing, it could make sense to look hard to see if there is a swindle before resigning or losing on time.
This is plausible behaviour from a chess player and not necessary an "abuser" or a "moron".
Both players have the right to use their clock time as they think is best, unless they are intentionally trying to annoy or spite the opponent.
In my opinion, it is a loss to everyone if players with no malicious intentions have to worry during their games about being banned for "stalling".
If I'm looking at the right game it was 20 seconds, and he was down a whole queen. There was nothing left to think about in that position.
Oh! And you couldn't wait for 20 seconds. These seconds were taken from your life a never comes back, oh no!!!!
Again: It's not your decision when he have to resign, or if he have position to play, even without queen, it's opponent job. Don't like it? Play against computer, simple as that.
Well Ilfrin, same agressivity/arrogance could be given to you : so you got a warning... can't bear that? play against computer. ;)
I got a few warning myself for letting time get out (not on purpose oof course). If it get to a point where I get banned for a few hours, that is not even the end of the world. Glad that bad players get banned anyway.
Yeah, but enemy time is enemy time. It's his and only his, that is what you have to bear with, just as game rules. Recently I was in real tournament (first time, great experience) and had opponent (child with 1800 ELO), who thought 40 minutes one move and then ask for draw. That happens and it was fair and square. Aggresion would be, if I insist after 20 minutes, he has to resign or other unappropriate crap, which I would be banned of tournament for sure.
And here are people complaining for 20 seconds.
