How should I use opening DB in correspondence games?

When we use analysis board we can check openings DB but it seems to go on until it finds available moves so if I and my opponent both use it we could potentially go on for dozens of moves.

So, would it be cheating?

How can I be sure when I have to stop?

Or I could simply go on until it stops and it would be fine?
I'm pretty sure it's been discussed and it is tolerated, regardless of how far you are into the game. Not that everyone agrees, mind you; but at least you shouldn't get labelled.

That being said, it is good practice to inform your opponent that you're using it, notwithstanding the fact that most players are probably doing it at least occasionally, seeing how accessible it now is.
Have a quick chat at the beginning of the game what assistance each of you intends to use so that the playing field is leveled.

To improve your opening knowledge you shouldnt use the DB in the sense that in a given position you look what theoretical move is possible. You should look ahead instead, see what lines will be avaible, what you like and dislike, and plan where you want to lure your opponent. Who knows, you may even find a strong novelty somewhere and have your oppenents run into it.
@elwood_: Yes I wasn't used to check a db when I had to search somewhere else but now since it's there it's almost impossible not to look at it.

Oh, I didn't think about that. For sure it seemed strange/unuseful to just look at the next move every time. Thanks for your suggestion!
I love the feature, but I'm in the field where it should absolutely be disabled for any games that are still in progress.
It's legal and normal to use opening databases in correspondence chess. Though some may feel the need to notify your opponent if you are using it, it is neither required nor even encouraged to do so. Players should be aware that their opponents are most likely using an opening database in their correspondence games. I would consider it more normal to feel a compulsion to tell your opponent you have chosen not to.

Yes, it makes sense. It would be a bit boring having to explain everything everytime you start a game and if they have doubts about it they can ask.
