It depends on what breed of dog you're cooking.

Anything that disguises the taste of standard hot dogs is good on hot dogs. Roofing tar would qualify, were it not toxic.
A quality sausage or bratwurst on the other hand would require tasting to decide if the flavor was enhanced.
