A few years ago Putin himself asked to join NATO or inquired. Not sure what year. But he is just a gangster. Useless gangster. A new set of leaders in Russia will see it is best to join NATO and end their hopeless state in their large country. Russia now is simply a backward abyis of gangsters and no sense of fair play and security for its citizens. No free speech. No free enterprise. Just barbaric activity in the whole country. Russia and Siberia. So all these barbaric places have to adopt Western civilization ways if they do not want to lose their entire existence. If they let barbarians run the country they will surely lose everything. Adopting English so all people understand everyone else will help. As it is now what tourist would feel safe in Russia?

I am also not sure about English as a second official language in Russia. Certainly not under Putin because English would ne too modern, too Western. Maybe with a more Western, democratic (and democratically elected), open-minded president.

It was before 2000. But he wanted Russia to be part of Europe and more Western. Then he decided to stay a gangster.

If we return to the real world then we will find that the Germans were the first to come up with nuclear weapons and they created it already in the US. And US didn't hesitate to use it in 1945 in Japan destroying 2 peaceful cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki with the entire civilian population. Funny thing is that the Japanese regularly invite Americans to the anniversary of this event, apparently to thank. Next US wanted to use it against USSR but fortunately USSR managed to create its own bomb and the US got scared and canceled attack plans. After that there was an arms race and the US has always been leader in it. They were the first to try to place nuclear weapons in space (SDI program).

As about other countries the only one was Israel. In 1973 they were ready and going to use nuclear weapons against Arab countries but at the last moment they were kept from this by US.

So not everything is so clear.

In case of humanity destroys itself in a nuclear war, will be absolutely not care who was to blame.

The best result of this Ukraine/ Russia war will be to have real progress in de-nuclearizing the world. No country should have more than 250 nuclear bombs. This needs to be a UN project. Then the next phase would be no country more than 100 nuclear bombs. Then 50 and so forth. This is needed in the world. 5000 bombs is lunacy. Russia was the leader to build so many.

The thing is IF//IF Putler/Russia has the Gaul / audacity to use a nuke someplace //just even one// then it sets a precedent Maybe India would use one on Pakistan in years to come. etc etc So this must not happen. The only way to stop this is for the Russian military to do a coup ASAP and eliminate Putin. Then allow FREE elections in Russia and a NEW age will begin. No more barbarism. No more KGB. the bombs will be dismantled. From 5000 to 250 then 50 and less. A UN project is needed to monitor the dismantling. Spread the English language through the world so people can speak freely and everybody understands each other. Yes keep other languages but have a common English dialogue for the UN and the world. There is no need for war of any kind in this modern world. There needs to be more peace keepers to uphold freedom and security everyplace.
