What is the definition of a strong imagination?

This is a loaded or unloaded question depending how you look at it. I can make some comparisons to give you an idea of what I mean. People want me to write unique, fresh things, yet are there?

Take the movie 'The Thing' normally I would have been scared of it but shapeshifting has been done before? Odo from Star Trek: DS9 can be described as a polymorphic entity that can take on any form-desired or not.

When a story is written what carries us to the end of it? Unless you believe in a Never-ending Story?

How long is an actual story?

Some go for many pages while others go for a few sentences or words. What makes a description stronger than a conclusion? Should the author tell you if they are going to lie ahead of time or goad you into following them? If something passes away how do we keep it dead or gone?

Perhaps I asked the wrong question? You do not need to imagine anything if it feels real enough? Or is everything merely inconclusive?
Mind you, in the movie "The Thing" we had guys called "MacReady" and "Windows" , and they were both booted up. :).
I do like the opportunity to use my imagination more for some things in movies, however, sometimes not enough information is given, leaving one disappointed. :).

There is a difference between mystery and suspense. Should the author never tell you where the problem originated? The big reveal is sometimes alluded to then shown at the end. Should the problem remain truly unknown? That way it is a true mystery. Otherwise, it feels like fiction is all about suspense. Suspension of disbelief.

The Science fiction movie "The Signal" is rather like you describe above, the truth is alluded to and subsequently revealed at the very end, but i was still not satisfied with the ending, as i would like to have had more information and story surrounding it.
The movie felt more like the first instalment of a bigger story (but wasn't). :).

I am not sure what to say? Feel sorry for you or agree with you? That is like saying do all games of chess you play need to end in checkmating your opponent? How many chess players know the answer to that one?

Well Atleast we both question these ideas, that's a start I suppose. :).

The point of that movie is not the shapehifting - it's the paranoia from not being able to trust anybody plus being isolated on Antarctica away from al help.

It's about the fear of not being able to trust anybody really.

It would be best if Hollywood and people at large removed their favoritism. I definitely see some stories written in a way to be able to draw conclusions about it. While others might be better off left in the mystery. I suppose it is best to learn to accept either possibility sometimes.
