This is America

Nobody voted for "autocracy" and "autocracy" isn't a REAL danger in America.

The possibility of "autocracy" is a talking point, best claimed on Halloween.

What's GENUINELY scary is the amount of repeated abuse directed toward one man who ACTUALLY did a pretty good job for four years.

Is that one man perfect? Do I agree with all of his policy positions? Nope. Perfection is a goal and is rarely achieved.

But it's not that the American people are fools or evil: it's that they see much more clearly than some who don't trust them and perhaps some who don't even like the notion of nation.

Trump was able to brave long, non-fawning interviews for a reason. He has an internal, consistent vision and a genuinely useful base of experience. And some genuine wit. And a real, hard-working track record.

That, and rather unusual hair for a more "mature" citizen. Although I hasten to note, so as not to be misunderstood or mischaracterized: some people look really good without hair. However, Noflaps, regrettably, would not be one of them.

Americans DON'T like needless division and most try to determine reality by paying attention, not consulting celebrity or marketers.

Americans value performance and observed effort and merit -- and most do NOT hate or disparage others merely because of superficial differences. Regardless of what some may claim.

As an addendum to my preceding post, let me repeat a statement from one of my other posts:

Neither one of the candidates was an idiot or a monster. Regardless of what some may have thought or told us.

So let us try to heal and be gentle with each other. May we avoid hating or gloating --and turn toward effort and objectivity, as best we can.

I applaud the sentiment hope the Democrats change their current models and move towards this as well.

America is the name of the continent. In this case, you are talking about one particular country of said continent, namely the United States of America.

I totally agree with you. It is truly shocking that after 250 years of democracy Americans chose autocracy.

democracy for 250 years? Really ?

250 years ago, slavery was legal, and in 1774, owning slaves was a symbol of financial wealth and prosperity.

mistreating or killing an individual based on their ethnicity was permitted.

oppression and violence against indigenous populations was common and reached its peak during the second half of the 19th century

women were not respected and were confined to the roles of model wives and housewives, moreover, love marriages were rare since the majority of families with any wealth organized arranged marriages, and the fate of Working-class women were even worse.

the same goes for working class children who had to work. and the working conditions were deplorable, the bosses having no respect for the health of their employees, the accidents were numerous and fatal. When anarchism began to take hold in working-class circles during the second half of the 19th century, the police repressed demonstrations with violence, sometimes causing numerous deaths.

duels were common and often replaced justice when it came to family matters, duels often murderous and arising from futile motives.

in 1774 democracy was just a beautiful idea inflated by sonorous allegories but did not yet exist, in 1774 it was still the thirteen colonies under English control, these thirteen colonies had no representative in England and were subject to disastrous economic policies where the protests were violently repressed, that caused the American War of Independence which ended in 1783 with the Treaty of Versailles and the Treaty of Paris where the British Empire recognized and granted the independence of the thirteen colonies as a federal republic

I didn't think it sounded aggressive. I think it was meant in a way to encourage a specific group of people to continue on their path.

IMO, a lot of our problem as a society is that we are too cynical. How many Trump supporters consider a world in which Harris was a public servant who was and trying to help better her country? How many Harris supporters consider a world in which Trump is trying to make a positive change? The more we fall into the trap of assuming ill intent by the other party, the less able we are as a society to come together.
