It's been a long time coming, but the USA HHS finally released the new nutrition guidelines today. I've only skimmed them, but they appear to be a massive overhaul. In my opinion, virtually all of the changes are for the better.

looks like they basically flipped the pyramid which is good,
this part made me lol tho "We are realigning our food system to support American farmers, ranchers, and companies who grow and produce real food—
and the Trump administration is working to ensure all families can afford it."
O rly that must be why they aggressively went after defunding food stamps and reducing aid for hungry people lmao

Early on, I heard them say on TV that the pyramid should be flipped, but I didn't really think they had the balls to do it. I figured the lobbyists would get to them. Imagine my shock today when I took a look at it...

Weirdly, I'm not really a bacon guy. I used to eat a lot of bacon as a kid, but over the decades, I sort of just stopped eating bacon for no particular reason. (I don't think bacon is bad for you.) I do eat lots of beef, some pork (mostly in sausages), and almost no chicken. The other day, I heard that pork chops are about the best source for Vitamin B-1, so I've started buying some pork chops to add to my beef. I also try to eat canned sardines and tuna to get my omega-3. I also heard that bacon doesn't have as much Vitamin B-1 as pork chops have. (Although bacon does taste good!)

I have a few quibbles over some things they didn't change, but overall, the new guidelines are a huge improvement. The changes will positively affect our school lunch programs, the military, veterans, and senior programs like Meals on Wheels, etc.

I noticed that the guidelines are leaning hard into whole grains and olive oil. While that's OK in theory, the problem is that most of the "whole wheat" bread in U.S. stores isn't really whole grain (the bread manufacturers are lying to us), and about 70 to 80 percent of the olive oil sold in the U.S. isn't pure olive oil. (It's either adulterated with other cheaper oils or not even olive oil at all.)
It's good that the new guidelines are pushing butter and whole-fat milk. (Although I think most adults probably don't need to be drinking milk at all.)
