how did ''never gonna give you up'' become a meme?

Origin. "Never Gonna Give You Up" appeared on Astley's 1987 debut album Whenever You Need Somebody. ... Several users helped to post mirrors of the video on different sites, but one user on 4chan had linked to the "Never Gonna Give You Up" video claiming to be the trailer, tricking numerous readers into the bait-and-switch.
It was first called a duckroll a gif of a duck dancing then it led to 'accidently' putting ricks video Then it was a rickroll an ongoing internet meme involving to trick someone into clicking rick astley's music video
My guess for origin would be Reddit, one of the oldest (modern) social media platforms
