  3. Best Chess Players

Capablanca up, Tal down
Mikhail Tal - 15
Magnus Carlsen - 14
Anatoly Karpov - 12
Bobby Fischer - 20
Garry Kasparov - 18
Jose Raul Capablanca - 18

Typical Fischer idolization.
BF was on top for not even 3 years, yet the uneducated blindly worship an average WC who quit playing, too afraid to play vs players who'd most like beat him. How he can be included in the topic is beyond me. There will never be an objective poll with all the Fischer crazies.

down Carlson, up Kasparov

Mikhail Tal - 15
Magnus Carlsen - 12
Anatoly Karpov - 12
Bobby Fischer - 20
Garry Kasparov - 19
Jose Raul Capablanca - 18

carlsen up, capa down

Your logic is incorrect. Carlsen has sat at world number one for a long period of time now, and broke the FIDE world record. He is currently world champion, and the fact that he is so young and so good already makes him THE BEST chess player ever. Now, Capa sucks because all he could do was somehow get lucky and win drawn endings. He would stand no chance against even Botvinnik, who is already dead.

Mikhail Tal - 15
Magnus Carlsen - 13
Anatoly Karpov - 12
Bobby Fischer - 20
Garry Kasparov - 19
Jose Raul Capablanca - 16

chill out joseph

carlsen up capa down

Jose Raul Capablanca - 14

I guess I can’t vote yet, but here’s what Ill say. I guess Capa’s summary is correct as he had good grinding power, but what else? I still think Carlsen needs to spend more time as champ and prove himself rather then defend his title like 4 times I think. I don’t think he’s been number 1 for too long though in comparison to guys like Kasparov who was champion for a lot longer.

I may have upvoted Fischer on the grounds that he was a pure genius (though crazy), but my argument on not being champ for awhile probably should go to him as well.

Kasparov seems to have retired cuz he was upset about losing to kramnik and then not gaining the champion title back.

Overall, I think Karpov May have been the best. While it’s not the most flashy tactics, his positional style was amazing.

@Titus369 stop writing essays, the reason why i'm not voting is because i'm too lazy to figure out who's at what and write them down.

Copy paste ;) yeah I’m passionate about this I guess hence the essays

@Deathmaster Somehow get lucky and grind out endgames? That's just biasness and a bunch of bs right there. He's considered the all time greatest endgame maestro, not without reason. Carlsen, on the contrary has a solid positional style, where he just waits and waits for his opponent's mistakes and makes no mistakes himself. Imo Capablanca is as good as him. And by adjusting rating inflation, both Kasparov and Fischer edge him out (maybe even Karpov) so that's invalid too. So he's not the BEST ever, atleast it can be argued.

This poll is quite absurd. A few contributors are voting repeatedly, stuffing the ballot box.
