What to do if Lichess refuses to let you resign?

I'm recalling that video of GM Jon Hammer on YouTube showing him on tilt after losing a few games in a row but one sequence caught my attention - after blundering a piece Hammer tried to resign the game and the app refused to let him resign because it required his opponent to make a move first. BTW after viewing that video again I'm noticing it wasn't Lichess. So Lichess is in the clear on this issue but it does make me wonder if there is a protocol that Lichess requires when players decide to resign the game.
So you are blaming Lichess for some problem somebody making a video about some game on some chess website? Or asking how to handle a problem Lichess could have but doesn't, just assuming it did? Really unnecessary thread!
I'm asking the question because suppose I play a game and I want to resign the game. Am I allowed to resign out of turn or must the opponent make a move first? And no its a perfectly valid question to ask. And there might be freezing issues as well or a slow server connection causing you to not send the signal correctly. I've seen this happen while playing against Stockfish myself. I sent a resign request to the server and I couldn't tell if it was approved or not. It kept requesting a connection to the server and I had no idea there was a server connection issue. Yes this is a legit question.

The video I'm referring to on YouTube wasn't showing Lichess but another site. So the original question wasn't meant to insinuate anything wrong with Lichess at all.
I already disabled that setting however I've noticed several times when resigning a game against Stockfish I couldn't tell if the resign request went through. I had to disconnect to see if Lichess recognized my resignation request. So my concern is based off of connection issues that might inhibit a clean resignation request to the server and how to respond to slow connection issues.
