swiss tournament

@mdinnerspace
I agree, that a correspondence tournament would be a good starting point in developing an alternative round based tournament system.
Only 70 tournament players and yet lots are online.

Maybe the results depend on how the forum is seen or reviewed by the players.

I look at some but not all the forum posts. I do the same as if I flip through a newspaper. When I find a subject I like, I then read the article.

Maybe there needs to have a different approach to trying to vote for different types of pairing preferences.

Some sort of notification to discover the preferences of all the players. When they press tournament, they get the question:
Pick a pairing system you like best.
a) Arena
b) Round Robin
c) Swiss
d) All of the above.

If a player says Arena, they could see available arena tournaments. If they say Round Robin, they could see the ones with round robins, and if they say Swiss, they could see the available Swiss tournaments that are scheduled for the day.
All this in a left hand column without removing the present way the tournaments are displayed.
We can all suggest what we like. We are not being listened to :)
Maybe we should ask the developer team directly and invite them to brainstorming, but its seems that everybody have cold feet. :)

Dear developers, be so kind as to share your viewpoints with us.
I know that for whatever reason in the past the Swiss system was not so popular, but I think many hobby player in this site would like a round based tournament system which is capable of longer time control games too.
So, what do you think about developing a new tournament system alongside the current Arena? What alternative pairing systems can you imagine, and in your opinion which implementation would be feasible?
Thank you for all your trouble.
It's hard to establish just how much interest may rest in alternative formats to Arena. I think the % of members who ever read this forum topic is quite small.
Maybe a great deal of interest exists, but priorities, starting a new "project" may not be on the horizon for Staff.
@RMario...maybe email Lichess to bring attention to the demand for traditional formatted tournaments.
Maybe Lichess could email all it's members, asking for feedback, and evaluate the response.

We've discussed how a Swiss Correspondence Tournament is a good staring point. I wouldn't expect this to require a great deal of set-up for developers, and would require only a volunteer member to monitor.
To be clear, this is the tournament & pairing source code in question:
github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/fc653d7a7005fdba7ae4160bd9aa06acbb08942b/modules/tournament/src/main/arena/AntmaPairing.scala
github.com/ornicar/lila/blob/ad61daf69b832d9be06b6b38d6b5aa9f2565c6e3/modules/common/src/main/WMMatching.scala

Again I state my concerns, without having looked closely at code:

I'm inclined to agree with @mdinnerspace that Swiss pairings (scalable to any number of players, just in case everyone joins the server can't halt) would itself be a new project.
