Round-Robin is a desirable mode of tournament

Hi,

I read your argumentation why round-robin does not work online because there is no fair way if people quit during tournaments etc.

Of course it could happen that for example in a round-robin with 8 players A B C D E F G H, player C goes away after 3 rounds and so all others that should play against C in rounds 4 to 7 will get a point for free (+:-) whereas the others who played against C in rounds 1 to 3 may already have lost against him/her.

But this is not a reason to provide no round-robin option at all. Why not let the one who wants to create a tournament decide what format it should have und why not let the players make their experiences with that form of tournaments and decide on their own whether they want to participate in that kind of tournaments or not.

Not offering this standard form of tournaments is kind of censorship.

On the other hand you have no problems with Arena format where players play different numbers of games, get more points for a win just because they won the last two games etc.

Inventing crazy, maybe fun form of tournament modes but on the other hand refusing standard tournament forms with an argument "that it is not fair online" seems to be not in harmony.

Maybe you could rethink your attitude about Round-Robin tournament mode.

None is forced to organize / participate in that, nevertheless the option should be there. Maybe a club wants to play in that format. Who are you to say "no, that does not work online, we will not implement it as we don't like it" while on the other hand creating other modes (Arena) that are full of random luck and favours players who resign early just to play more games where they could get extra points instead of fighting when a bet down in material.

Just a thought :-)

But yes, I love Lichess,

Thumbs up specifically because of this sentence: "Inventing crazy, maybe fun form of tournament modes but on the other hand refusing standard tournament forms with an argument "that it is not fair online" seems to be not in harmony."
I want like maybe lichess could make you choose how to play your tournies like you could make if you lose you are eliminated or make it even more crazy.
You're very well aware of the major drawback of round-robin: Lack of reliability. The tournament can be distorted by walkovers at ALL times. (In swiss, absentees are sorted out after 1 round, so there's less byes in late rounds)

In fact, I also don't play any Swiss because of byes. They give you neither rating points nor points for your profile record (Swiss is not included there in general, major drawback), so it's just a waste of time.
