permanently disable chat?

Is there a way to permanently disable chat?
Interesting.
A good feature could be a conditional configuration: chat with all, nobody, only "friends".
Try engaging "ZEN MODE" in your preferences. You only see the chess board and time. People can curse at you in the text and you'll never know until after the game.

(This captcha is a rook and queen mate in a square pattern - NICE! )
@killF7 Thanks. I was looking for a feature that lets others send you messages, but not allow chat over the board. I couldn't find it. Anyway doesn't matter. I now see the distraction created by the opponent a challenge to overcome and not to avoid.
I think you can click on notes tab , then you won't see any chat in your games or observed games , just your notes
also you can just click on the dot in the right top corner to disable the chat :)
Should you really try to chat (distract the players) while playing a tournament?
I think not.

In preferences, pick Standings tab over Chat or Chat over Standings.
That way you never have to change or see the chat if your preferences defaults to Standings over Chat.

Even if you go to chat, as soon as a game starts the standings show up on the left.
When you level your game, the standings are still there. You must press the chat tab to see the chat section, but it will go back to the default of your preferences.

I guess pressing the button to disable chat does the trick too. But it would be nice to see the standings always visible if we wanted it that way.

Chat should probably only be available when your a spectators. Less distractions during a rated game.

In kid mode kids could then have their own chat section among their friends only.
