A while ago a feature was mentioned on a lichess strawpoll called achievements (similar to how they work on game consoles or Steam). Achievements would be good for encouraging players to explore
lichess.org as a site and give them goals to aim towards. This sounds like a cool idea to me so I'd like to call attention to it again in a new poll.

I don't understand what you mean by 'potential reward' as the achievement badge is the reward & provides bragging rights and proof of an accomplishment.
Historically, when unlocking an achievement from a console or PC game, you get the badge icon unlocked; the console or PC doesn't spit out a cookie.
Regardless, it would be a neat idea if implemented and I voted yes.
Historically, achievements actually give you experience points or gamer points towards a profile level. I personally don't think that would fit in really well on lichess, so I'm trying to think what else that reward could be. Beyond just bragging rights.

After one achieves X amount of profile points or achievements, a Lichess T-shirt is shipped to you (possibly customized with your user name on the back)
Such a venture could be funded on Patreon at no cost to Lichess website or it's players; after all, the site is funded by donations...

It would have to be an extremely large sum of hard-to-get achievements to make that accomplishment suitably exclusive. That way not just anybody who just made an account and grinded for a few days could get something. It's a cool idea for sure.
Yes I agree, it would have to be exclusive and not be easy to simply grind it out for a few days to obtain it...
LiChess could be so much more than it already is - but I'm not sure what their end goal is...or philosophy to implement such ideas.
For starters, we definitely need Achievement Badges.
