Are there plans to implement Freestyle on Lichess?
That could be a very good idea.
Freestyle chess is just a company trying to rebrand something that has been around for a while :-)
The original is indeed Chess960 and it has been around for almost 30 years according to wikipedia.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess960Maybe it should be considered adding the "Fischer Random" variant, seems interesting...
Bobby Fischer died in 2008 which is 17 years ago, so obviously it's been around at least as long as that.
I do briefly recall when it was proposed in serious tournament play, as the events being played right now are still not official FIDE ones.
There is an event being played right now, a team battle 30+20 time contro (or is it 20+10). Unfortunately we still have to play our first moves in 30 or 40 seconds, not quite sure, when actually this is the time I probably do want to spend some time thinking (especially with all that time on my clock).
Without time to think, you can get very blunt lines like in one of the games I played which the computer is showing as very high accuracy, but that's because neither of us took any risks whatsoever then agreed a draw around move 30.
