I typically try to confine myself to a single reaction per comment, but have sometimes noticed people using more than one. I suppose 👍 & 😄 go together reasonably well, or either of these and 🧡; but should it really be possible for one person to use both 👍 & 👎 on the same comment? Logically, you should have to pick one, like on YouTube (or Amazon, back in the day). For that matter, using 👍 on one’s own comment is just bad form. 🙄
More troublingly, I have occasionally observed people spamming every available reaction on every comment in a given thread. Usually this only continues for a page or two, because the spammer is too lazy to check back the next day and keep it going. (On that note: perhaps a “reaction timeout” for users who click a lot of these in quick succession would be a good preventive measure.) But as this adds “visual noise” to those threads, it seems like a form of vandalism, almost like graffiti. So while I accept that it’s sometimes desirable to use two reactions, I have to question why one person is allowed to use *every* reaction at once. Surely it would be reasonable to impose some limit?
Apart from the timeout idea, I have no real suggestions. I would simply like to know if this behavior is in fact intentional / desirable. For my part, I doubt I would ever use more than two at a time, and that rarely. But I think it’s worth considering ways to minimize spam in any form; and whereas one or two reactions may be quite reasonable, using them all together strikes me as spamming. Personally, I find it distracting, and believe it detracts from whatever discussion is being had. But that’s just me, and I’m open to other perspectives.
Cheers
