crazyhouse is a nice variant (it would be better with a random position as in chess 960), but something is excessive with it:
if you take a piece, it becomes yours and you can use it again when you want.
That means that, when you have one piece more, it's as if you have 2 pieces more.
I think we should be allowed to use a captured piece (or pawn) only if the total value of the captured pieces+pawns is similar for both players

Then it is no longer crazyhouse as it is meant to be played. What happens during a queen exchange then?

Play some more, it's a very good game, and material advantage is not as important as it seems first.

zh 960 would be wicked though

It's also twice as easy to come back from a material deficit though.
