Change to donations system

"Now, if the patron system allows me to work on lichess full time, that's awesome - for me and for the site."

I agree. With Thibault working at Lichess full time I noticed everything works perfectly, no bugs at all, especially if the Firefox browser is used. Software developers with Thibault's skills can easily make $100,000 a year or more. So definitely a monthly donation is the way to go. And like everything else at Lichess, en.lichess.org/patron/list is easy to use.

I have to be able to live on my social security income so I can't afford much but still I recently started making a monthly payment. If almost everyone could contribute what they can every month that would be enough I think.

What a fantastic place this is. Everything is perfect, everything works perfectly, and the constant improvements are overwhelming.

Every chance I get I recommend lichess. Even people who don't know the rules would love lichess because this is the best place for getting started thanks to en.lichess.org/learn#/
I understand the need to get more money in, I really do... but I think it is wrong to 'change the rules' retrospectively.

It seems to me a dangerous precedent. I mean, in a year's time, will those who have given money lose their wings if they don't give every two weeks? So instead of being GIVEN our wings, we now 'rent' them for less and less time...

Also, perhaps if people are giving more money, it'd be good for the users to be listened to a bit more, too. It's one thing having a forum, but mods and developers don't seem to be part of the community overall - they're relatively separate and a bit aloof.

I love lichess, I really do; but if the 'members' are going to pay, perhaps it could be a little bit more user friendly. Just my opinion, but for what it's worth, there it is...

Keep up the good work!
