Ban Players Who Leave Instead of Resigning After the Third Time

I don't like playing chess against players that leave instead of resigning. I submit 2-3 reports of players who leave the game instead of resigning every time I play for a few hours. Instead of these block/report submissions doing nothing, how about if a player is shown to clearly have left at a moment where they should have resigned we just temporarily ban those players in order to make the statement that we, as a community, don't love waiting 15 sec to "Claim Victory" after every fifth match
Just saying, I think they should be ban, not for leaving the game, but their play.
You should be banned for adding 2 hours to their clock. That is as dumb as complaining about waiting for a table in a filled restaurant at 8:00 pm and coming back at 10:00 when they close at 9:00.

Note that you are not informed about a ban for those you reported. Also, they don't get a red label. So it is very possible they had been temporarily banned for leaving games.
Dear Community,

Hope you're doing fine.

I do agree with (@)stawstack regarding having to wait for over an hour or more to claim victory, especially when we can deliver checkmate on move once the opponent moves. There are two possibilities. Either there was a genuine internet connectivity issue, or they simply left the game fed up with the position. The former is something which is outside their control. Generally, I would wait or add time to their clock if I think it's the former case, so that we can have a result which feels reasonable for both of us. In one of the cases, I resigned instead of trying to win on time, since I was down a minor piece. However, the latter possibility of letting the clock run down is bad sportsmanship.

The Lichess Terms of Service prohibits this behavio(u)r. Please find shared the relevant portion of the Terms of Service, last revised on 6th October 2022, as follows:
> Ragesitting, Ragequitting, and Aborting - This is when a player chooses to keep the clock running or leave the game, forcing their opponent to wait for them, rather than playing on or resigning. These are all considered bad sportsmanship, along with aborting too many games too frequently.
There is an automated system in place which monitors this behavio(u)r. If it occurs too frequently, then the player is timed out, with the duration of the timeout only increasing with each infraction. As they continue with their infractions, their account is eventually closed.

I disagree that (@)stawstack should be banned for adding time to their clock. I looked at that game and saw that they added a minute, which looks reasonable. In case you're losing and can't wait for the opponent to deliver checkmate, or your opponent is adding time to your clock when you're clearly lost, the best course of action to take is to resign. Nevertheless, I wish you all a nice and relaxing weekend.

Regards,
Abhishek

It's very easy to make another account. What I would do is only play long games with people you know and stick to blitz and rapid time controls. It would be nice if this site would allow us to create current groups of players who won't stall. Then, it's not Lichess removing the player from the server but a group leader removing that player from the group. It can be handled quicker and under rules Lichess doesn't have to police over.

One day, the neurons will click. They will allow us to post teams and events in the General Discussion area and we will be able to do this.
