When a new user signs up...

I'm wondering if the user can "choose" their beginning rating?
If I'm not mistaken, initial rating of 10 rapid is 1200?

Because my rating fluctuates from 1150 to 1250, I often get matched with new users.

And many of the new users' skill are far below 1200. So it bumps up my rating, which

I don't like because then I will get matched up with higher level of players that I'm not ready for.

And for those who aren't familiar with lichess "rating" perhaps they have option to test their

skills by playing with the chess engine?

Especially for junior players, like age from 7~15, they basically have to lose "a lot" to get matched up with their level...
Actually, I believe the beginning rating of a new player in every category is "1500?".
Yes, you start with 1500. Every ELO kind rating has a median rating around the starting ELO because thats how the system works. If you alter the starting ELO, you alter the median ELO long term.
