What section of a tournament should i play in?

I'm leaning towards class b to class a but figured you guys could give me some concrete advice. I've never played in a chess tournament before

If you want to improve, then you should always choose to play in the strongest possible environment.

I won my State class championship for B. My rating is VERY similar to yours. I think you can play the open section later. Play your class the first time. My USCF is 1800ish. Good luck. 👍

What if:

There are two categories in the tournament: A and B. A is over 1700, B is U1700. I can not play in A because I'm 1304 How can I play in the strongest possible environment?

#6 strongest possible… if A is not possible, then B is the strongest possible.
#4 Yes, open is best. Many players stagnate because they play too weak opponents.
