*Vote, Vote, Vote*: The very best of rule misunderstandings

I noticed that there's a huge demand for polls. Here's mine, what do you think is best? The highlight of all rule misunderstandings?

If you don't know how the game works: 13 great rule misunderstandings will each start with 20 lives. Every 24 hours, you may upvote one misunderstanding giving it +1 life, and downvote one misunderstanding giving it -2 lives.

Here we go:

"insufficient" material when time-out, single-minor-piece-win issues - 20
real insufficient material when time-out = draw, not win - 20
en passant "bug" - 20
illegal long castling (b1/b8 attacked) - 20
three-times repetition of positions - 20
50 moves rule - 20
150 move automatic draw at lichess - 20
claiming/enforcing draw in general - 20
rating refund issues - 20
"bugs" detected but playing a variant - 20
enforcing takebacks - 20
rematches - 20
lag issues considered cheating - 20
Right off the bat you already mention the most infamous one of the bunch; I think I never got the hang of it until my mid 20's. And the very last one on your list is more often than not reason enough to write a very irate, very wordy post on the forums! :)

So my vote looks like this: "Insufficient material" +1, lag issues -2

"insufficient" material when time-out, single-minor-piece-win issues - 21
real insufficient material when time-out = draw, not win - 20
en passant "bug" - 20
illegal long castling (b1/b8 attacked) - 20
three-times repetition of positions - 20
50 moves rule - 20
150 move automatic draw at lichess - 20
claiming/enforcing draw in general - 20
rating refund issues - 20
"bugs" detected but playing a variant - 20
enforcing takebacks - 20
rematches - 20
lag issues considered cheating - 18
I must say I do like the more "classic" rule misunderstandings best. Rating refund, lag issues, ok, but there is little to make up for an easy en passant pawn exchange and your opponent sends you a chat message as in "Did you see that bug? I moved it to x4 but you captured on x3!!" or in casual games opponents taking back the x4 move supposing they have misclicked and moving again right to x4.

"insufficient" material when time-out, single-minor-piece-win issues - 21
real insufficient material when time-out = draw, not win - 20
en passant "bug" - 21
illegal long castling (b1/b8 attacked) - 20

50 moves rule - 20
150 move automatic draw at lichess - 20
claiming/enforcing draw in general - 20
rating refund issues - 18
"bugs" detected but playing a variant - 20
enforcing takebacks - 20
rematches - 20
lag issues considered cheating - 18
I love when people don't know the castling rule:

"insufficient" material when time-out, single-minor-piece-win issues - 21
real insufficient material when time-out = draw, not win - 20
en passant "bug" - 21
illegal long castling (b1/b8 attacked) - 21
three-times repetition of positions - 20
50 moves rule - 20
150 move automatic draw at lichess - 20
claiming/enforcing draw in general - 20
rating refund issues - 16
"bugs" detected but playing a variant - 20
enforcing takebacks - 20
rematches - 20
lag issues considered cheating - 18
If I could propose one, a misunderstanding that pisses me off endlessly, a mistake that I see happen at coffee shops, in almost EVERY SINGLE movie with a chessboard, even on the engraved tables at some chess parks (Looking at you Pasadena, CA)

Having the board set up sideways: 20

Always remember "white on right" so h1 and a8 are white.
#5: Agree completely! Don't know why it annoys me so much, but it just does.

My work involves me visiting people in their homes, and just last week I walked into someone's kitchen, and there was a chessboard on the table, set up sideways. I was itching to say something, but being there in a professional capacity, it wasn't really appropriate :(
