vchess.club : play chess variants

"EDIT: I think i'll change that anyway, soon. Despite AI level, it would be more logical. When a human game begins, store current computer game state. When it's over, pressing "new computer game" should continue from the stored state.
Re-EDIT: well I'm really not sure. It adds complexity for too little gain I think."

- Well, i wouldnt be suprised to see the the last position when starting a new AI game. To me it doesnt really matter how strong my opponent is, i just try to play good chess:)

"--> What do you mean ? Recognized by a software ? Yes the FEN lacks the final "moves counts" + enPassant square, things like that because I didn't need it. But I'm adding problems, which will require something like that. But most probably not moves counters. So it may remain not compatible (but you can add the missing FEN data easily; I'd be curious to see cases where you cannot fix the FEN)."

- Pasting it into import game in Lichess used to go flawless, only thing now is the starting position. The PGN seems to be good again, the e2e4 is a nice addition. From a user perspective a compatible portable game notation can be very handy.

Ill also lobby some more games:) I tried some other variants (like magnetic) but ehrm got little confused.
960 n 10x10 are the only ones i like , well besides king of the hill and crazyhouse. (the knightbishop and knightrook are amazing pieces)

Hi O42, thanks for the feedback !

I finally decided to implement what you suggested (resume computer games later). It's in the repo, but not published yet - because at the same time I'll add a problems section, and also open a chat at the end of a game, in case of players wanna exchange on the game. Will be very easy to ignore (need to click to access it). My two biggest issues at that time are :
- pages presentation: I'm really bad at that
- translations: there will be quite a lot of text to translate. I'll do the French part (my language), but would need help for Spanish (although I could give a first version), and that's about all I could do by myself - then contributions are welcome :)

Concerning the PGN indeed it cannot be compatible - in general - with lichess import, at least because I don't disambiguate moves. Think two rooks on a1 and h1, I write "Re1" but not "Rae1". I will certainly think on PGN improvements, but since most variants are not compatible with lichess it's not urgent.
If you mean translation of the rules, I could do the German texts as long as I don't have to download something. But honestly I don't think that is neccecairy and you would have to tell me where you want to recive them.
Several people told me that they are not comfortable with english - but yes it's a lot of work. My first idea was to write text such that (bad) online browser translators could show an acceptable version in any language. I'll probably stick to that at least for now. In any case, thanks for your proposition :)
New version just uploaded :
- chat is available after finishing a game (not while playing): just click on the "chat" icon appeared in upper-left corner.
- problems section is implemented: atm I just put one Ultima mate-in-1, but others will follow.
- engine is faster and not freezing the interface anymore (it is not stronger, however :) )

My main concern now is with the CSS styles, which are a total mess (even for my non-webdesigner eyes). I'll work on it in the next few weeks.
Also, after-games and games interruptions (against computer) are more consistent. Possibility to resume the current computer game at any moment (as suggested by O42).
I improved the presentation (I think), in particular the chessboard is now a bit bigger.

Also, I translated into French all rules + welcome page (although if you read this then you don't care :) )
Thanks for the feedback ! :) I will refine the design a bit, moving the board slightly up by better arranging the buttons + indicators. But I don't have time for the moment.

However, to let you wait meanwhile I added 4 new variants :
- Berolina
- Upsidedown
- Dark
- Marseille (I know it's "échecs marseillais", but I feel it sounds good only in French; "Marseillais Chess" is too weird. So I used the name of the city instead).

I advanced on the Spanish translations, all is finished except the rules (I had time only for Atomic, Alice and Antiking). I'll continue soon enough.

Finally, I plan on the long term (horizon in months) to allow playing several games, and by correspondance too, to challenge specific players, to add time controls. But always randomized starting position + Zen mode against "automatch" opponents. I need to attract players, but also to keep the spirit of the website intact :)
Dark seems to be quite nice. It reminds me of something I know as ghost (you only see your own figures and an arbieter says wether your intendet moves are possible and when there is a check) but I like this one more by far.
Could you please implement a green light or something like that to indicate that you are the one who has to move now?
Oh and if you are at that I get the introduction text every time I ticker the homebutton. Is there a way for me not to see that anymore?
Thanks
