Alpha Zero THINKS & Learns hehe' ... Stockfish is an engine
if you find some common mathematical language to handle the 2 types of engine frameworks you mentioned, please share back here.
I seem to understand from the op, that the question is about how data and engine evolution (parameters) or design as input-output function interact (ok i might be rephrasing to fit my goggles).
I think that the alpha and maia papers would provide their own review with a fresher look than books about the long tradition of AB engines, as they would have to work harder to bring about their perspective. and possibly contrast with existing state of the art.
If your thesis has to be innovative, then maybe the topic would require more research than a masters might imply (depends on education system, and personal objectives).

Thanks jomega, I would like to do something similar, however I'm afraid that I will not be able to write over 60 pages about such thing thus every scientific paper about it would be greatly welcome
@dboing
I don't mind putting more effort in my thesis than other students do, I'm just afraid that I will lack the sources/references since I should make about 60 pages about it.

@Seken In my work we are looking at chess to better understand a larger concept. In the first paper it was looking at how to build human like AI systems, with a goal of creating an algorithmic teaching system. So you don't need to limit your references to chess. You can have most of your references from other domains.

Pathetic. In one of my high school classes someone is doing something on... well to be honest I don’t really know, but I think it’s like reading a bunch of books and discussing something about how it has changed over time? Something like that. I think it might’ve also had some psychology or political aspect in it, just not sure. All I know is that it sounds super boring.
