Solving Her 3 Chess Mysteries

Today I had a game with a friend and 3 of the hardest rules of chess happened during it.

My friends name is Silvia and she learned chess from her uncle in Italy and thought she knows the rules.

However, she didn't know that a pawn can move one or two squares forward on it's first move; she thought it was only the first move of the whole game.

I said <" this has to be the first thing that people learn about chess and how could you not know that all the pawns have this option?".

This happened about halfway during the game and I really can't fathom how she could play chess for so long and not know this rule. Maybe she was stoned again, I really can't wrap my head around it, she's probably gaslighting me.

Then when En Passant happened I almost didn't want to do it because I knew there'd be some splaining to do. Of course there was. I ended up making the bold statement of," more people have been punched in the face over this French swear rule than all other rules combined. We left it there, agreeing to disagree.

To make matters worse and really rub it in her face I underpromoted to a knight check and she said, "that's impossible".

I just rolled my eyes and thought of what it would take to explain a Rckrolling meme.
And Sylvia " Grandmother "🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣and her family and relatives 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@MrPushwood Oh I had to listen about Silvia's mother again today, talk about her being too busy to come to the phone... lost on the kids here though.

@DJdatadriven This is a true story that actually happened yesterday.

In fact, Silvia broke her left arm a few days ago and she played in a cast.

The Silvia's mother reference is addressed to @MrPushwood who lives in the forums and is often off topic and is about the song by Dr. Hook, of course.

And in fact I spotted Silvia a queen but I'm not worried, she doesn't know how to checkmate and when I tried to teach her to mate using a queen and king against a lone king, she stalemated me 3 times in a row.

This game yesterday might be the single most instructive game I've ever played because it illustrated 3 rules of the pawn.

The pawn is the most complicated piece in chess because it has 8 rules to know and it's half the rules of all the pieces combined!
@BorisOspasky Are you talking about that song by Murray Head, One Night In Bangkok? Because it makes a hard man humble. I highly recommend spending a few years there. The chess scene is amazing and that chess club on Soi 22 is one of the best I've ever seen...so keen, ya know what I mean?
