Personally I play d4 more often, but I’m pretty sure it’s still a pretty even split between the two opening pawn choices; let me know if you think otherwise!
The lichess database in opening explorer shows 64-67% for 1. e4 and 24-27% for 1. d4, depending on the filter (but not as much as I would expect).
Which I find a bit surprising because my experience suggests that they are about equal. And indeed, whey I switch to "player" tab and select games I played as black, I get 48% for 1. e4 and 42% for 1. d4. Am I just unlucky or is it some conspiration? :-)
(For the sake of completeness, games I played as white have 100% for 1. e4.)

1. Nf3!!
I tend to favour 1.e4, but sometimes I go through a period when I am either/both bored with the usual 1.e4 openings or curious about one of the 1.d4 openings that I haven't played in a long time. sometimes a change is as good as a rest.
everybody starts with e4 as a new player.
Higher difficulty you get more people who play d4 or other openings.

1.d4, I find it more reliable, it's really just personal taste though (absolutely not because I'm scared of the Sicilian...) I do love a 1. Nf3 when I can't be bothered with loads of theory.

This is probably true for players going through the "classical education". Among self-taught online players, I suspect a different approach is quite frequent: "Just learn London and you'll be fine until you reach 2000." Or more general "Beware 1. e4, all sort of horrors wait for you there."

c4 is unequivocally the best
c4 or Nf3 but started with king's indian attack and attempt Ruy Lopez as noobi3 then went to d4/c4 bc I like positional play. Settling on English as primary now and Nf3.
I've bounced around making my white game weak so I'm trying to focus and run with (good luck) English, Jobava, Trompwall, and will play Grunfeld, KID Makagonov if i see those setups, also will do Catalan and occasional QGD playing exchange or Slav exchange. I still don't practice what to do with Dutch from c4 I'm probably very vulnerable there though I did minimal practice starting d4. Only so much time.

its even, maybe e4 cuz theres f4 n d4 in e4,e5 game, but there is no e4 in d4,d5 game only c4
