score reward inconsistancies

not been here long .. but enough games lost and won to see pattern of scores based upon my rating and others .. but i still get surprised by some getting higher reward than anticipated .... although i have played similar rating both ways and never achieve these score rewards .. someone simply explain this inconsistancy without referring to ""have faith"" in the sysytem? smiles ... and it is not connected to the new rating system with the ? mark.. trying to get you into your experience group faster .. ?! but again .. i see occassionaly the higher reward ?.. something does not feel right ?! .. cheers .. by the way .. this is by far the VERY BEST CHESS SITE OUT THERE .. CONGRATS TO OPEN SOURCE AND semi transparent operations ... cheers again
If I understand the rating system correctly (which I may not), there are slight differences if someone hasn't played in a while so their rating change is larger. This is because they are considered to be more likely to have a difference in strength between this game and their last because of the greater time difference.

I assume that this happens here as it happens on some other sites and lichess uses the same system as those more or less.
so not much science .. just a ethos based upon perception.. cool so long as we know the truth of the matter .. but it would be nice to have someone who understands or writes the algorythm how that occurs ... msake it concrete so we do not react like good monkeys whom do not need to know why/how
so... thought .. i go and play at chess.com for week or so and come back .. i should get higher points reward because of time passed ?.. does nt sound equitable ?
To respond to your post #4, the problem is though you would end up gaining more points but you'd also have a higher rating to maintain.

So if your strength is 1500 and you end up with a 1520 rating with this "trick" a draw with a 1500 causes you to lose 3 points where you would normally have lost none based on your real strength. So it ends up just working itself out after a few more games.
@quietcricket someone has written down the algorithm. There academic publications of it also source code is available for lichess. And usully google is you friend (and wikipedia)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glicko_rating_system

that is the proposal by google to "glicko rating" and it has all the maths and algorithms in easy to understand format
cheers for leading me in right direction.. havin done a lot of statistics in my major i should find it interesting and enlightening .. cheers to all helping .. mike
ummm. smiles .. so this IS the algorythm used .. or a modified version .. very important to know how trustworthy the source .. cheers again ...
It should be basically the same. I can't guarantee that lichess hasn't made slight modifications to it, but I'm going to assume that they haven't.
