Maximum Following

I've heard before from a couple of people "you can only follow 300 people, if you follow anymore, lichess will delete them". Is this actually true? If it is.. why??
That used to be true, now Lichess tells you when you're trying to follow more than 300 people and just won't let you.

The reason is that following hundreds of people is expensive on the database, so there has to be a limit.
Maybe we can increase the number to 500 or 400.
i think some people use it for gaming pairing, or move line exchange salvos in correspondance chess (where knowing online-ness might mean many moves can be exchanged, in spite of the long term contract of the correspondance game).

i don't think people are using lichess as social media service, or for maximum exposure...right?
