Lichess changed the rules ("mating potential")?

I remember years ago that US player Josh Friedel lost on time with rook versus knight (the pawns had gone in mutual time scramble) in Bad Wiessee at the big German open. The referee decided 1:0 for the knight party, Josh thought he had draw secured because this is handled different in his home.

Btw, there some other issues where USCF is different. Cui bono? I am happy as well that lichess sticks to the official rules.
lichess has indeed changed this just a few days ago.
probably the first internet place that actually follows FIDE rules regarding this topic, interesting isn't it? :o
Uhm, think that schach.de (playchess) had this since ever. I used to play there when the server was 1 month old (autumn 2001). ;)

Thank you! :)
If we want to follow the official FIDE rules , there is always the matter of Appendix G.
www.fide.com/fide/handbook.html?id=171&view=article

But :
1) It doesn't apply to blitz ( 10 mn or less for each player).
2) For longer games, the "organizers of the event" may decide whether this Appendix shall apply or not.

So I guess k+b vs k+b, with opposite colors, is not a draw if flagged, even in long games, since Appendix G is not really enforceable on Lichess.
@ BlunderMaster01: to my understanding, yes.

I'd like to bring up the issue of how and if the Lichess server recognizes "dead" positions which may be difficult to detect for a chess engine. For example, consider the following position (assuming that black cannot capture e.p. on c3 in the first move):

en.lichess.org/qFENr9TD

I played this against the machine and lost on time...
You should play for 50 moves then...

Btw, I had two times the B vs. B scenario on playchess. The one I lost on time, the other one 50 moves draw.

I think it's the lesser evil to apply the official rules. Thanks again!
