kb has finally been banned!!!!!!!!

Lichess made a blunder. This is not a principled decision. In the explanation given they say they ‘tolerated’ the kb extension. If kb extension was unfair or cheating they shouldn't have tolerated it in the first place. So how often has lichess tolerated cheating because someone was their patron or a famous player?
Well they didn't think it was a big deal. When people started to protest, they looked into the matter and decided it was cheating.
And if it’s not cheating (which seems to be the case given the wording they chose) they shouldn't have banned it. The reason given makes it clear they made the decision only to pander to current ultra-bullet demographic because they’re afraid of losing players.
They should have made kb extension a feature of lichess instead. Then more people would have used it and the ultrabullet demography would be less tilted towards mouse skills. They wouldn’t have lost any players in the long run. But now it seems popularity is all they care about.
Adding kb to lichess would be BAD. Why would they focus on ultra so much when it isn't real chess? Using kb and stockfish is same imo.
This approach means they can’t be trusted to make principled decisions anymore (or to make innovative improvements to the site). For example I suspect they’re much more likely to be lenient towards their patrons or VIP players if/when they cheat or break the rules (or they might even give unfair advantage to such players in lag compensation for example)
Well they said that patron players only get wings and bragging rights and nothing else.
I also wonder if the recent screw up with the agmadator tournament wasn’t the result of this kind of approach. They claim it was impossible for them to predict this would happen, but I think the more plausible explanation is that they got their priorities wrong: ignoring the fundamentals in favor of attracting more and more players.
Idk about that see lichess' blog post ig.

Lightning is a better replacement (a thunder icon would look way cooler than a bullet... Chess and bullet... come on, that's lazy writing)

Fun fact: When I first saw Lichess, perhaps around 2017-2018, there was a thunder icon instead of the bullet icon.

Tbh I'm fine with KB going away but I think lag was and still is a bigger problem in ultrabullet.

it is real chess.. have you seen people who play kb 2000+.. they play very accurately and it is a very sophisicated game. if you want to play more in depth chess you have ever other variant like 1 minute lightning or 3 minute blitz.. why mess with a beautiful thing they made with allowing keyboard for ultrabullet chess. it's a real shame.. it was a unique feature for the fastest form of chess in the world.. and they ruined it to give in to people who were complaining because they weren't willing to learn it for themselves

i'm not fine with KB going away.. i'm upset at this.. it was a thrill like no other. they shoudln't have just pulled the rug like that especially after allowing it for so long. if anything make another variation of chess where you are allowed to use it.

i hope someone in the world will make a chess server where we can use keyboard.

I agree that it added more excitement to the variant and a new factor to look out for. And given that it doesn't improve the quality of your moves and can easily be taken advantage of, I don't see it as cheating. However, I would be fine with the change if it weren't for the fact that they haven't done anything about the lag which as I said is a bigger problem that affects more people. For me, it would make sense to either ban KB and fix the lag, or allow them both. Getting rid of one and not the other may please more people but it doesn't make the quality of the game better.

kb has turned into such a big thing that everyone should just forget about it

I agree with @UhbadazinglyFrozen 's last comment lag comp is probably the next thing to fix not to be abolished entirely but limited. Excessive Lag compensation can be just as bad a kb is. With my ping at 115-145 I have played ultra with and without significant lag comp when lag comp is unfavorable I am 2000 maybe 2100 ultra but I usually lose .15 every move minimum unless my opponent is moving slower but clearly 2200 when lag comp is favorable.

What is lag comp? And how does lag give advantage?
