I just lost a game because my modem hung. What can I do?

I was in a winning position, several pieces up in a rated rapid game, my modem hangs and takes too long to reconnect and I lose the game and get a message threatening a ban for leaving the game. What can I do about this? The last thing I would want to do, is leave a game I am clearly winning.

Actually, I don't want to leave games at all.
If anyone wants to play like that, surely the easy option is to just play as ANON and not sign in.

I was a bishop, knight and 2 rooks against single rook and knight, and probably 3 or 4 moves away from the win, I am just really hacked off with my internet provider. Are there moderators on this site who could correct my rating and look at the game position?

A game result correction will not happen. You have to live with it. It may help you that everyone experiences it from time to time.

I thought that may be the case, I know it is a free to join site with no adverts and a wealth of good lessons, and other resources. Maybe a bit more time could be allowed before the site assumes you have left the game. Most of my internet signal drop outs are less than a minute. I have noticed short drop outs seem to be allowed, I have had opponents leave the game for a few seconds and then rejoin with no consequence which is good. But maybe it could be set to a longer time to allow your home hub to try to reconnect.

bruh once I left for 5 sec in rapid and lost for "leaving the game", but another time my opponent had left the game (gray circle=offline) for 5 min in rapid and he didn't lose. When he came back (5 min later), he blundered mate in 2.

I wouldn't be too worried about the lost rating points. Your rating on any given site is an estimate of your true abilities. Losing 5 games in a row because of bad internet does not mean you are a worse chess player. Beating someone 10x in a row because they are playing on their account drunk does not mean you are any better. If you worry about studying, tactics, and analyzing your games (especially losses), your rating will slowly improve.

@jonWM You only see your side. Think about your opponents. Why should they always wait for you just because your internet connection is bad?

Your game completion rate is just 72%. You can't complete 3 of 4 games. I have played 113 games and my game completion rate is 100 %. I want to play chess. I don't want to wait for my opponents.

And think about another problem: Some guys do rage quits when they lose. Their opponents have to wait longer when lichess increase the waiting time. This is frustrating.

Yeah that 2 minute wait is a killer.

Don't worry about your rating falling a bit mate. Truly speaking, after you played that game you could only have gotten better due to more experience.

I say even if you had to lose a game and some rating in exchange of some knowledge, it's worth it in the end! The number next to your name does not always reflect your true skill for many reasons.

I remember what heisman said, don't be afraid of losing elo, fear playing a game and not learning anything!

I could add, fear playing a game and not enjoying it! The real winner is the person who loves this game the most.
