How to become a more defensive player?

I am playing Crazyhouse those days and I have perceived my attacking skills have increased in standard chess. My problem is that I am very aggressive but I cannot balance aggression with defensiveness, just like Magnus Carlsen. He is such a balanced player, just like Stockfish, that can defend at the same time it is attacking.
How to increase my defensive skills? Is there any chess variant or board game in which is defensive? PS: Lichess communist admins I know you got triggered by my nickname, but please do not shadow ban me.

Say stuff like: "I don't know what everybody's always picking on me for. I make better moves than any of them!"

And more than just being a "balanced player," Carlsen is also a very very good player. After all, being balanced could apply to any level...as long as your offensive/defensive skills are roughly the same. And I would much rather be an unbalanced attacking nut like Tal. :)

Chess is a thinking game... if all you've got in your toolbox is a hammer than all you'll see are nails.

First, a question: how is your lack of defense causing you issues? The answer informs your solution. I ask because I suffer from a similar issue. Something I've been trying recently is giving more attention and care to prophylactic moves, not just pawn moves like a3 in the London System (to take an example) but also pre-emptive defensive moves like Qd2, something that defends the entire 2nd rank. Increasing the solidity of your positions this way will ultimately decrease blunders.

Replay Karpov and Petrosian games. Ideally commented ones. They are the kings of prophylaxis.

Good defenders know endings and tactics well and they are stubborn in defense. They use their time for thinking and don't distract themself from the chess by mixing it with ohter stuff while thinking about it, b.e. politics. Each thing at its time.

@Neustart He didn't name his account while playing chess, and if your comment is true then you are not a good defensive player because you are bashing him for his political views.

@Cr7fanatic

You're wrong for several reasons.

  1. I didn't comment his nick and his paranoid touch about it. Intentionally.
  2. I didn't critisize his political views. And bashing??? Oh Lord. Mimimimimi. /irony Someone is not my opinion. This is bashing me. Makes me cry all day long and searching for my gun. /irony Mimimimimi
  3. Politcal views and being good at chess are independent. There have been good chess players in all political directions.
  4. I'm no good chess player at all. Defensive play is only one skill I suffer from a lot of gaps in chess. So what? it's not about my skill.
  5. What I said about becoming a good defensive player is summarized from what I experienced in several decades of otb chess and as youth trainer. Take b.e. Aagaard Attack And Defense or take what Dvoretzki writes about prophylaxis. There are a lot of easier good books outside now.

Take this only about chess - fitting to the forum.

I discuss politics in off-topic, where it belongs and if I like to do it. Asking a question about chess the way the TO did mixing it with stuff for another forum is disgusting and blaming the trials of his parents to teach him acceptable manners.
