How do you read a chess book?

Hard work, going through all variations.

If games are analyzed you can find them with CB mostly. But this decreases the effort and the efficiency? Food for thoughts.
It's certainly easy enough to read through a chess book and not get much out of it. Don't do that.
Because I am dyslexic I have trouble with most chess books, and I learn better with videos. You can probably imagine the excitement when videos became popular back in the mid 90's.

My first set of videos were "The Sicilian Dragon", Then IM Chris Ward. And then the Roman Lab videos that later became the Roman Forum. These days videos have become so good they might be better than books. I wish some of my opening pamphlets were in video format. (I have considered creating my own videos for my reference when I finish inputting them into studies.)
At the beginning i read books with my board because i was not used of the chess notation. Ok I understand that Nf3 means Nf3 ^^ but when you have a line with 3 or 4 moves I was lost ...

So first take your book plus your board and play the moves to understand comments. Sometime if something is just a sub line you can try to analyse them in your head. The better you read books the less you will need your board.

Everything has a beginning

Generally I prefer studying chapter by chapter with a huge pause between two chapters to meditate about what I read
as painful as it is,use a board =).. or atleast a DGT board
