Yo, I was curious what the fastest Epaulette Mate is, so I did a bit of exploring and the fastest I could find was 8 moves for Black or 9 moves for White.
There are a few different definitions of what an Epaulette Mate actually is depending on where you look, but for this challenge an Epaulette Mate is defined as the king being checkmated with two of its own rooks on either side.
I challenge the members of Lichess to find a faster mate than me. I don't think it's possible, but I'd love to be proved wrong.
Here are my mates:
White:
1. e3 e5
2. Qg4 Na6
3. Qxg7 b6
4. Qxg8 Qh4
5. Qg5 Bh6
6. Nf3 Bb7
7. Nxh4 Rf8
8. Qf5 Rd8
9. Qxe5#
Here are some alternative 9-move mates I found for white:
1. c3 e5
2. Qb3 Ba3
3. Qxb7 Nh6
4. Qxc8 Na6
5. Qxc7 Qe7
6. c4 Qb4
7. c5 Rd8
8. g3 Rf8
9. Qxe5#
1. a3 e5
2. c3 Bxa3
3. Qb3 Bxb2
4. Qxb7 Na6
5. Qxc8 Nh6
6. Qxc7 Qh4
7. g4 Rd8
8. g5 Rf8
9. Qxe5#
Here's my 8-move mate for Black:
1. e4 c6
2. Ba6 Qb6
3. Bxb7 Qxb2
4. Na3 Qxc1
5. Nh3 Qxc2
