Yep, it's really common for a game to start out with 1. e4, e5. In fact, it has been played almost nearly as many times the Sicilian has!

I prefer not to see 1... e5 with a question mark though (much less 3).

It's really comnon, I agree, but boring though since it generally results in draw more than Sicilian Defense.
That's why I play either Sicilian or Scandinavian Defense.

I always play e4 e5 every single time without exception. But our ratings are too different. Unless perhaps you want to go into sub variations that I specialize in.
