Do guys play differently when playing against girls or women?

Online: Definitely not. How on earth would I even know? I just assume everyone as a chess player.
In real life, almost always not. The only time I would play differently is if I'm playing someone who looks exactly like my background image I got from a dare: I'd probably accidentally try to premove in low-time situations.

How come?

Chess is not a game based on the physical strenghts based on the weight of the participants, (unlike rugby or football, where mixed professional practice, although possible, would be considered unequal because of these points), even if I'm personally for mixed professional football.
And on the abilities that chess recommends (thinking ability, strategy, analysis and mental endurance), men and women are strictly equal. The fact that women's categories have titles with different ranking standards to the men's categories is because of the later development of women's chess as a professional and the marginalization exercised by some men with regard to the professional practice of chess by women before. And it's not for reasons of hypothetical "balance" because of pseudo difference on the human level

Okay, thank you. But does it make u feel worse if u lose to a girl than if u would lose to a guy?

Absolutely not.

In my recent OTB rapid events I've only played one female and she wasn't very good, but I don't think I approached the game any differently. Not sure her age (she was 15 I think) played much of a part either. (Incidentally it was Riya-Aude Barbier-Ramaiah, if you want to look her up on FIDE. Her FIDE ID is 469416 and her current rapid rating is just 1426).

I was black and went for Caro-Kann, sometimes I consider a fairly "safe" response to 1 e4 and have played many times.

That differs from my game against a young boy a couple of months before in a tournament were I was doing well and as black went for the very unsound Balogh Defence ( 1 e4 d6, 2 d4 f5 ). My opponent didn't know what to do against it and I got the upper hand.

Some people just have an aura around them that makes you nervous

I don't. Hearing about this always confuses me.

Do these guys not meet (and even "compete" against) women elsewhere in life, whether it is in class, at work, or at the gym?

Some guys think you are physically tougher than any woman? Come to my climbing gym, and many women, and even little girls, will kick your ass.

Women feel they are playing against the patriarchy when facing a male opponent, it's all psychological

No, pretty sure it was some other reason that had nothing to do with men or women. C'mon, "the patriarchy" isn't some entity that lives in every man to suppress women.

And anyhow, let's be honest - you have no idea who you are playing against online, so it wouldn't make a difference either way. (I will say, I do end up playing worse against people I know to be women, but that's mainly because those people are usually irl friends that are lower rated, and thus I just don't try as hard)

I was just wondering because I've heard about this before I just don't know if it is true. Like is the play style or anything else different?
short answer:
no.

Girls, women and young kids are often thought to be weaker opponents.
However, the right attitude consists in taking each and every game very seriously.
Failure to do so will inevitably lead to losses and frustration.

easier to climb when you weigh 50kg. smallness helps in climbing, caving, chimney sweeping, horse jockeying too
