Difference between "grid selection" and using "Create a Game"

Pretty much just that. What is the difference between clicking "15+10" in the grid vs clicking "15+10" after clicking "Create a Game"? Are both sent into matchmaking? Is "Create a game" just going to send you into the lobby waiting for someone to select your offer?

Now, what about in the new mobile app. If I click the "Play" button is seems to find me a game rather quickly. Is this actually just a shortcut to using the grid? Is it the same as using "Create a Game"?

Confusing that there are these different options, through different UI pathways, as I don't see anything defining how they are the same or how they differ.

Just trying to make sure I am giving myself the best ladder experience on both platforms.

The only difference is that you can select the rating range trough "Create a game" and what you call "the grid" offers commonly played time controls for convience's sake
