Defenses against d4.

If you're looking to change the pace of your play I'd recommend the Dutch. It's dynamic, offbeat and has attacking chances. Just make sure to book up on the theory a bit because it certainly can be a risky opening, one misstep could end up with you getting smacked in the face.
As a French player, you should be familiar with playing with the IQP, so I suggest the Tarrasch variation of the QGD. This is one of the best setups. Although I believe the KID to be a better defense, the Tarrasch better fits your style.
I also liked the Benoni, and then moved to KID setups. I've recently looked at the grunfeld and its truly a wonderful opening that forces inequalities
