I played an OTB game and recorded it in a lichess study. I‘m trying to copy the pgn, without downloading it. I know I‘ve done it in the past, just don‘t remember how. Please advise! Thanks.

Unfortunately, this can only be done in non-study games. With studies, one must simply download it, copy it thence, and then (if so desired) delete the file.

The way I've dealt with this (I don't know the difference between study and non-study yet) is either I copy the text if I can. If for some reason I can't, I download the PGN file and then open it with iPages for the Mac and export that to a plain txt file.

Go to the analysis board. Click on "Share and Export" below the board. Copy the text you see in the text box and paste it where you want.

pgn is a text file. Just open in any text editor like notepad or whatever they have on Mac, and if your computer complains of "unknown file format" or suggests you to "search the marketplace for a suitable program", just change the extension of the file from pgn to txt.

There is a pull request for this: https://github.com/lichess-org/lila/pull/11324 I hope it makes its way in because it would be nice to have.

That does not work in a Mac. It is and remains an unreadable file. You have to export it as a text file for it to be readable.

There's no need for file format laundering with iPages.
You can change the default action for .pgn files.
Here is the GUI clicky way:
- In Finder, right-click on a file with .pgn extension. Select "Get Info" from the pop-up menu.

-
In the game info window, select "TextEdit", for the "Open with:" application. (Or whatever you want, but TextEdit is always there and works for this.)
-
To make it permanent! Click on the "Change All..." button.

- Confirm your unflinching permanence by clicking "Continue" on the pop-up.

- Now double-click on the file and it will open in TextEdit.
