Caruana Takes The Lead In Round 7

Oh, noes! An Amurican? A shot at the title? No way! Okay, well, he's not 100% Amurican. He's "cultured."

But he beat my horse. Aronian is now, practically, a dead-horse (again, every Candidates Tournament cycle, dead horse).

Go Mamedyarov!

Why do I bother to root for Aronian? He chokes every time around. Like the perpetual Olympian who brings home no medals but sometimes wins irrelevant competitions between Olympic Games ... I've gotta remind myself next year or year after that Aronian is a dead-horse.
Practically every Aronian game is spectacular, and that's a pity he is in such a form now that this mostly converts to losses. And a very interesting draw by Kramnik - Liren, much more interesting than a win of Karjakin.
Yeah, I was watching the end of the Kramnik-Liren game, and I was wondering how that would play out ... very interesting and worth an in-depth analysis from a fellow GM (from around moves 55 or 60 forward would be interesting to see line-by-line, move-by-move analysis of what either player might have been thinking).
The article says: "The move 31. g7 should have secured a draw by perpetual check for Aronian, but he was unable to find it and was forced to resign soon after." ???

But Aronian DID PLAY 31. g7+.
The drawing move he failed to find was 32.Qh4, wasn't it?
Instead he played 32.Bc4+??

Poor Levon... :-/
I'm pretty sure the article meant he failed to find the perpetual (which is referred to by the "it") and the passage meant that after his correct move 31.g7 he could the secure the draw (not that he first has tp play 31.g7). Still not so unambiguous :)
Thank you Eldrail for the clarification. You are probably right. Now I can force myself to see the meaning you mention but... well... "still not so unambiguous" as you nicely put it. :-)
At least I see now, it was probably not a typo.
They would have used "the move 31. g7 WOULD have secured a draw by perpetual" to mean what you thought they meant. Or "the continuation..." since it's clearly not an obvious draw with just 31. g7.
Grischuk - Mamedyarov...
What a dull draw!
Play this game a couple of times when you want to sleep!
