Excellent interview, thank you!
I remember reading about Oleg on chessgames many years ago, how he travelled around Europe with his family, playing as much as he could. He has an interesting and solid style, well suited for opens. Of course, when you play that much, it's hard to keep a steady level, but you gotta do what you can if you're not playing invitationals or having rich sponsors. I'm guessing corona didn't make things easier for him either. Best of luck to Oleg!
Great interview! I appreciate you talking to Korneev. He started to unbutton a bit towards the end.
Oleg is one of a group of players I really respect - capable, pro GM's who play as part of their life, even though they are not the so-called 'elite'. I could mention E. Gleizerov as another example.

This is for all due respect. However, I believe that GM Bogdan Lalic was even more active a few years ago.
This was a good interview and interesting to hear from him! He seems both physically fit and to have a high mental aptitude for chess. Good for him! He seems to be enjoying life.
I like that he relates his ability to play a lot of OTB to a strong family life, good health, and the will to play (listed third). Chess requires good mental fortitude and if your family and health is in order, you have chances to play your best chess.
This "former top 20" is simply not true. According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oleg_Korneev and ratings.fide.com/profile/4156803/chart his peak rating was 2671 and he was No. 34 (April 2006).

@gbtami There is a difference between peak rating and peak live rating. It can't be seen now in the archives it seems with his 5/5 that he mentioned, however don't think he would bring it up for nothing. After that he might have dropped down.
@jeffforever live ratings are available from 2008 only, see www.chessbase.in/news/Interview-with-the-founder-of-2700chess-Artiom-Tsepotan
Of course "former top 20" is not an official title, but lets imagine Ding defends his title. Can Gukesh say he is a former world champion, because after game #11 it was 6-5? :)
