Well, Russia always had great players and in this moment, Russia has the strongest team in Europe.
FIDE is following all of the orders from "above" and became a tool in politics instead, which makes situation even worse.
Unfortunately there is no clear way out of this situation, at least for some time.
When chess and politics get mixed up, chess becomes politics, which is truly sad state of affairs.
It is not the first time, and it is not going to be the last time that we see this.

Some have, and they have been silenced, put into prison or even been killed. It is easy to say "just speak up against your oppressor" from a different country using an internet pseudonym, but it is a different story if you put your own life at risk doing so.
