About me

Hello, I am Milos Pecurica from Montenegro. 29 years old, bachelor in chemical technology, chemistry teacher and FIDE master.

Playing experience

I am a FIDE master with three IM norms(only 2400 ELO required for IM title). My current ELO is 2351 and my peak ELO is 2380. I was a 4-time youth champion of Montenegro (2008, 2009, 2011, 2012) and one time junior champion of Montenegro in 2013. I represented my country in many European and World youth championship and also in one World Junior championship in 2013. In 2022, I was 4th in our national championship and in 2023 I shared 1st to 7th place on the same tournament, along with 4 Grandmasters. Those results were crowned in 2023 when I represented our national team in the European team championship in Montenegro.
Currently, I play for the chess club "Buducnost" from Podgorica. I played for chess club "Crnogorac" from Cetinje and in 2019 and 2023 we won Montenegrin Premier league. I was the best player at board no.4(2019) and board no.5(2023) in both years we won the title.
I also play for "Sloga-Petrovac" in Serbian league and "Slavija-Istocno Sarajevo" in the league of Republika Srpska(Bosnia and Herzegovina chess federation)

Teaching experience

I am coaching for 6 years already at the local chess club from my hometown Bar. I work with over 20 kids at that club and besides that I also have over 15 students online, most of them from the US. I am fluent in English.
In 2018, I was the coach and the head of delegation of Montenegrin junior team at the World Junior championship in Kocaeli, Turkey.
In 2023, I was the coach and the head of delegation of Montenegrin youth team(U-16) at the World Youth Olympiad in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Other experiences

I am bachelor of chemical technology, currently working in three elementary schools as a Chemistry teacher.
I was also a basketball referee for two years but I had to give up on that profession in order to pursue an academic and coaching career.

Best skills

I am best at working with young kids and developing their basic understanding of the game. I consider pedagogy as my strong side as I think that teacher-student relationship is more than just explaining moves.
I strongly emphasize work on basic endgames, starting from pawn endgames.
When I work on openings with students, if they are rated lower than 1800 then I do not teach them concrete lines, but basic principles in openings such as the importance of development and central control.
With higher rated students I devote a lot of time in finding the right openings for their style and playing a lot of training matches with them in order for them to develop a feeling for those positions.

Teaching methodology

I do lessons on Zoom, the lesson can be one hour long, 45 minutes or 30 minutes(only for kids younger than 8).
I offer to all of my potential students one free half-hour trial lesson where we can get to know each other and where I can evaluate your chess knowledge in order to create a plan for working with you and also you get a chance to see If we "click" and if you want me to be your coach.

P.S. If you choose me to be your coach, get ready for a lot of homework. :)
