About me

“I am FM Angelo Evens Etienne, a dedicated chess player and coach with a FIDE Master title. I have over 8 years of experience in competitive chess, having participated in various national and international tournaments. My coaching philosophy centers around creating a personalized learning experience for each student, focusing on their unique strengths and weaknesses. I aim to inspire a love for the game while helping my students improve their skills and achieve their chess goals.

Playing experience

“I have been passionate about chess for over 8 years, achieving the title of FIDE Master through dedication and competitive play. Throughout my chess journey, I have participated in numerous tournaments, both nationally and internationally, where I have honed my skills and strategies. My experience spans various formats, including rapid, blitz, and classical games, allowing me to develop a well-rounded understanding of the game. This diverse playing background informs my coaching style, as I bring real-game insights to help my students elevate their own play.

Teaching experience

“I have been coaching chess for over two years, working with students of all ages and skill levels. My teaching approach emphasizes personalized lessons tailored to each student’s needs, focusing on improving their understanding of strategy, tactics, and endgame techniques. I have successfully helped students prepare for competitions and reach their personal chess goals. In addition to one-on-one coaching, I have conducted group sessions and workshops, fostering a collaborative and engaging learning environment. My goal is to instill a passion for chess in my students while equipping them with the skills they need to excel.

Other experiences

“In the last six months, I coached three students from Salvador, one of them having a specific goal: to become the champion of the inter-scolaire tournament. With only five days to prepare, we dedicated three hours each day to focused lessons on strategies, endgames, and middlegame techniques. After our intensive preparation, the tournament came, and I’m proud to say that my student achieved his goal of becoming the champion.

Best skills

“My best skills in chess include a deep understanding of strategy and tactics, which allow me to analyze positions critically and identify key opportunities during a game. I excel in opening preparation and endgame techniques, giving me a comprehensive grasp of the game from start to finish. In teaching, my key skills are: 1. Communication: I effectively convey complex concepts in a clear and relatable manner, making it easier for students to grasp challenging material. 2. Adaptability: I adjust my teaching methods based on each student’s learning style and pace, ensuring that they receive the support they need to succeed. 3. Patience: I cultivate a patient learning environment, allowing students to ask questions and make mistakes as they learn, which fosters confidence and growth.

Teaching methodology

“My teaching methodology focuses on personalized instruction tailored to each student’s individual needs and goals. I start by assessing their current skill level and understanding of the game, which allows me to create a customized lesson plan. 1. Interactive Learning: I believe in an interactive approach, encouraging students to actively participate during lessons. This includes discussing moves, analyzing games, and engaging in problem-solving exercises. 2. Focus on Fundamentals: I emphasize the importance of solid fundamentals, covering essential concepts such as tactics, strategies, openings, and endgames. 3. Practical Application: I incorporate practical exercises, including puzzle-solving and playing practice games, to reinforce learning. This helps students apply what they’ve learned in real-game situations.
