About me

Hi Everyone, my name is Daniel Fernandez. I was born in Lima, Peru in 1985, but have made the United States my home since age 2. Until age 18, I lived in south Florida. In 2003, I moved to Texas after receiving a full scholarship to study at UT-Dallas and then UT-Brownsville (Now UT-RGV). I have a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, with an emphasis on Management. I worked for nearly six years, but only began to dedicate myself to chess full-time beginning in June 2016.

Playing experience

Youngest National Master (NM) in the USA (1996)
Pan-American U14 Champion; earned FIDE Master(FM) title (1999)
Florida State Chess Champion (2001)
Florida State High School Chess Champion (2003)
US Junior Closed Champion (2005)
Earned International Master Title (2005)
Placed 7th in USA Chess Championship (2006)
National Collegiate Individual Champion (2006 and 2008)
Team Captain of University of Texas at Brownsville (2006-2009)

Teaching experience

In my 15 years of coaching experience, helping students reach 2000 USCF seems to be my specialty. My students have won numerous individual state titles and even National titles as a team.

Teaching methodology

Careful analysis of one's tournament games is the key to success, in my opinion. Based on a large sample of games, I analyze patterns of mistakes and begin to work on those with the students. Homework is assigned on completion of class to reinforce concepts learned.
