The 2022 FIDE World Senior Championship is the FIDE-sanctioned world championship for senior players. It will be held in Umbria, Italy, from the 15th to the 26th of November. The field was devided into two sections: one for players over 50 and one for players over 65. A few nightly blitz events will accompany the main 11-round Swiss tournament.

World Senior Championships date back to 1991. In the past, chess players enjoyed greater longevity at the very top, with the most famous example being Wilhelm Steinitz, whose reign as world champion lasted until he was 58. Even in the modern era, icons like Kasparov or Anand have achieved fame and appreciation in part due to their long period of dominance. FIDE has recognized the importance of promoting senior events, awarding GM and other titles in addition to prize money.

The total prize pool this year is €20,000.

Time control is 90 minutes for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game with a 30-second increment beginning from move 1.
