How To Evaluate a Position

ChessStrategy
If you are someone new, I'm Sofia Yescas and I'm from the US. You need to understand the pieces, pawns, and kings.

There are three big topics that you need to know to judge a position. Let's suppose you are at the end of your calculation. The three topics are:

1. King safety: who's king is safer? How much safer is that king than the other king. How much of an important factor is the king in this case?

2. Pawn structure: Where is your majority? (It's okay if you don't have one.) Who would have better chances if the pieces (besides kings and pawn) were to be off the board?

3. Piece play: What are your weaknesses? What are your strengths? What is your opponent's weaknesses? What are their strengths? How big of a factor is the piece play?

Once you understand these 3 topics, evaluating will be simple. Have a nice day/night/tournament/vacation!

Here is an example, say that both kings are safe, and you are much better in pawn structure, and the opponent is one piece ahead in development then you are better.
